December Student Athlete of the Month
Parker DeSalvio, Wrestling - Team captain and 152 pound starter has been an integral part of the varsity wrestling team’s 4-0 record in the month of December. Currently he is ranked 3rd in Montgomery County and has started the the season off individually with an 8-0 record. At the Tough Boonsboro Invitational Tournament, he finished day one with a 5-0 record and was in prime position to compete for the Gold. Unfortunately he was unable to finish and forced to withdraw after an injury and not risk permanent eye damage. Parker continues to lead the team with passion and determination heading into the New Year.
Katie Freeman, Swimming - A four-year varsity swimmer, Katie has been a consistent and reliable performer in freestyle, breaststroke, and IM events. She helped lead the Churchill Swim and Dive Team to two victories in December by placing first in 200 IM and 100 breast against Whitman and 2nd in100 free and 3rd in 100 breast against Sherwood.
Dolan Plummer, Swimming - A four-year varsity swimmer, Dolan has been a consistent and reliable performer in backstroke, butterfly, and freestyle events. He helped lead the Churchill Swim and Dive Team to a win over Sherwood by placing 1st in 100 fly and 2nd in 100 back, and placed 3rd in 100 fly and 1st in 100 back against Whitman.
Parker Hill, Girls Basketball - 1st ever Montgomery County female athlete of the week In OT win vs PB, 18 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. In win over Urbana, 19 pts, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 steals. In OT Governor's Challenge win over defending Delaware state champion Sanford, Parker had 25 points, 8 rebounds, and the game winning shot. She was recognized by the tournament as "Player of the Day" for the Elite Showcase group. Parker is shooting over 50% from the field.
Flora Ginsburg, Bocce - Flora is the soul of corollary sports at Churchill High School. She's kind, genuine, empathetic and patient. She has a good sense of humor and has bonded with all of her teammates in multiple sports. Plus, she's a really good bowler for the bocce team.
Jomo Goings, Boys Basketball - Jomo averaged 23.5 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists during December helping the team to a 4 -3 start.
